UNEVOC Centre [ENG]

Mission and history

UNEVOC is a UNESCO organization dealing with Technical and Vocational Education.

TVET institutions worldwide are joined into UNEVOC Network, the Centre of the Network being located in Bonn, Germany.

To facilitate the Centres’ coordination, they were grouped into the so-called Clusters. The Clusters correspond with the UNESCO World regional division.

The roots of UNESCO-UNEVOC date back to UNESCO’s First International Congress in 1987 on the Development of Technical and Vocational Education, held in Berlin. It was suggested that UNESCO should support the establishment of an international centre for research and development in TVET to work with the TVET Section at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

At the 30th General Conference of UNESCO in 1999, a resolution authorized the Director-General to set up an International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education. In 2000, UNESCO and the Government of Germany signed an agreement in which Germany committed itself to providing substantive resources for the establishment and operation of an International TVET Centre, the project then moved to Bonn. In 2002 the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNESCO-UNEVOC) was officially inaugurated
